Posi Disc Rear...

Hey everyone...i've got a line on a disc rear, just says 82 and up camaro/firebird...says its from a trans am...supposed to be a posi and a 3.13 (thats what the dude says) i think 3.23 but i also don't know what exactly came in that year.

Is it possible to go from disc back to drum easily ?? And i can't seem to find the stock width of the rear axle, mounting flange to mounting flange. Around 62" ???

Thanks...

Here's a link that will provide some tech data:

Swapping disc to drum or drum to disc is straighforward. Use the appropriate master cylinder and combo valve as well as the appropriate parking brake cables. The early disc brakes are infamous for not functioning properly. There is a 'fix' kit, however, that many members have used to good effect, including me, but I eventually swapped to PBR's.

So if i just buy a drum setup from the backing plates out i'll be set ?? I'm sure i can adapt something, i was hoping for unbolting the discs/backing plates/brackets, and bolting the drum backing plates on and being done.

The axel flanges are different between drum and disc. You can mod the drum flanges for disc, but not the other way around.

Another thing - if its an older 10-bolt(the break is like 89 or 90 I beleive) not only will it have the craptastic discs, it also be the smaller axle shafts. This means the only "gain" you'll have is an used/unknown mileage ring and pinion and $100 posi....
