Spring rates?

Anyone have any kind of aftermarket springs or coilover setups that want to share their springs rates and how they came about knowing what to get?
My car is a Miata with custom coilover setup and I need to figure out what spring rate to use? I want the car to handle well but be soft enough for street driving. I have a limit of about 3- 3 1/2" wheel travel to keep the wheel well gap to a minimum. Anyone know how to figure this out?
I will be using springs probably the HAL QA1 from Summit.

how about joining a miata forum, since we really don't care what you're doing with a miata, and our spring rates and suggestions are based on the weight of our cars, which won't help you much.

spring rate is used to achieve a wheel rate. Wheel rate is based on suspension design, sway bars and spring rate. You can find information on how to calculate these things but going to a Miata board would be easier.
