How important is the strut cover?
As stated above, how important do you think that plastic cover is that protects the exposed shaft on the strut?
The stock one broke and will not work anymore. The Chevy dealership does not carry them, AutoZone doesnt have them either.
Is it worth the trouble to go to a junkyard and go through the trouble of taking off a strut for this little part?
Thanks

I could be wrong but i dont think you have to take the strut out to put the cover on.I just got some off e bay for like $5.00 shipped.I guess im fixing to find out if you have to remove the struts to put them on.the only reason i could see to put them on would be to keep moisture and dirt out,but i dont think its mandontory.i just did it to clean up engine bay and look original

I would recommend replacing it. Alot of dirt and grime can get kicked up onto that shaft and it slides up and down. You don't want the seal on it getting torn up or the shaft nicked by a rock. You can just get some generic shock boots, ones that are flexible. That's what I use. They fit the top of the strut and you just use a big zip tie to hold them at the bottom of the strut.
I don't run them. But I live in sunny Southern California where we do not ice or snow and the roads do not have to be salted. nor do I ever encounter bad roads with heavy dirt here. I have been running Koni Yellows without the original dust boots on them for about 5 years and before that it had some Tokico Blues on it for about 8 years (they were fine when I pulled them off, I changed them for a better performance damper when I decided to build the suspension a little more hardcore.) This car has always been a daily driver.

Does anyone offer a 4X4 dust boot to fit a koni?
The stock dust boots limit the amount of static camber I can put in with the spoon mono ball strut mounts.
I want to keep the pistons clean in case i go agricultural.

...coil-over car don't have them..... - I've run w/o for years now, no issues, but I'm another guy who is smart enough to stay away from that cold white crap and everything that goes with it....
