Broken/split frame?

Hey folks,
I good friend of mine owns a 1/4 mile paved Oval track here and he lets me goof off in my new (85) camaro on the track sometimes, high banked so you can really get into the corners. Well last night I went into the turn 3 and 4 corner really hard left, I go right too when no one else is there, Anyways I noticed going down the straight that the steering was really sloppy/loose. Inspection shows that the frame by the steering box had split/cracked. Anyone else ever had this happen? can I just weld it back up with reinforcement? I have broken the frame on my old Blazer and welded it up just fine, heh same place too.

Thankx in advance

Jim

yes its common for that spot to go after years of abuse in turns. Weld it correctly and then go ahead and get yourself a wonderbar. Youll be very happy you did. It will also make sure that it doesnt happen again. It tightens up the steering tremendously and takes a lot of stress off where the steering box mounts to frame.

weld it up with reinforcement and then get the wonderbar bolted on there before you hit the track again...

I hope you drilled the ends of the crack, otherwise it could re appear. But then again, you will have the wonder bar on.
