Looking for new tires, some reccomendations?

Allright, I'm not gonna need new tires for probably a month or so, but I'll be honest, the Jumho 711's I'm running now are absolutely HORRIBLE. They can't hook for sh*t and they don't handle too well either.

I do some auto-x events and I'd like to be able to hook on the street too. I thought about some Nitto 555r's, but the soft sidewall just isn't going to work for auto--x so those are out.

I'm looking for tires and I'm sort of on a budget. For now the 711's will stay up front as they still have about 70% tread life on them. I'm running 245/45/17 front and 255/45/17 rear currently. I plan on stepping up to about 275/40/17 rear or 275/45/17. Either one is fine with me.

I'm REALLY liking the Sumitumo HTR Z II's right now. They're very cheap, look good and according to most reviews, they seem to get pretty damn good traction, and good handling too.

Here are some choices I picked out, remember I'm on a budget, so some of the tires may be relatively cheap here. Here are some I had in mind:

1. Sumitumo HTR Z II
2. Sumitumo HTR Z (anyone know the difference between this and the HTR Z II?)
3. Fuzion ZRi
4. Kumho Ecsta Supra 712 (step up from current 711's)
5. Kumho Ecsta SPT (step up from 712)
6. ???

Anyways, out of those tires please let me know your opinions on which one would be best. If one would be better for striaght line and one better for handling, let me know so I can weigh and compare the two. Also if you have any other suggestions that are around the same price (no more then ~ $110 a tire) then please let me know.

-Thanks, Brandon

I have Honkook Sport K104's on my car, in 255/45/17. I have about 4000 miles on them. So far I am very happy with them good grip, great in the rain, and the are holding up pretty good wear wise.. They are similarly cost the 712's.

They seem to have decent reviews, but I don't want them if they're anything like my current 711's. I was thinking in order to be satisfied I'm probbly gonna be looking at taking one more step up to the SPT's.

I was looking at thsoe as well. They're a good price at about $115 a tire, but I haven't heard much about them. My dad runs K106's on his Audi, they handle great, but I'm not sure about from a dig. I can't really compare since the car they're on is AWD anyways. Here's the K104's incase anyone knows anyhing else about them.

I also noticed in your info box or whatever under your name it says 300rwhp. Is that with or without the laughing gas?

How much power would you say your putting to the ground? Do they handle well also? No sidewall rollover or anything?

I wasn't planning on the Nitto's. I can't afford to have that soft sidewall of a drag radial in an auto-x race. How much power would you say your putting to the rear wheels with those 712's?

Not sure on the power but I take some corners at high speed and can't see any sidewall rollover.I drive a long curvy mountain road to and from work and couldn't be happier with them.

Like the above guy, I live on a curvy road. speen limit is 40, I drive 50 to 55 through the 35 corners and I never even squell. My buddy with a 2003 I think it is, SVT Cobra has the same tires as well and seems to love them also.

Its actualy niether now, lol.

I did a head swap a few months ago. I put 300rwhp with the juice down before the heads, at the time, I was putting down about 200hp N/A, I'm now putting down 240rwhp N/A, so in theory my nitrous should be in the 330-340rwhp range.

I haven't yet been the track with these tires, and I actualy haven't even juiced it yet on these tires (I changed some stuff on my fuel system, and need to get new jets and so forth, to get the nitrous working again).

So I can't tell you how they are going to do launching out of the hole at the track. They have good off the line traction at the 240rwhp mark, on the street, but we all know taking off quick from a light, is not at all like launching at the track.

FWIW, to compare to your old mans K106, the K104 is a softer compound that the 106, so it should grab better.

Audi's are a horrible way to judge off-line traction, quattro woarks WAY to well. On my Audi, it will roast the clutch, before the quattro will let a tire spin.

Hmm.... 712'sa aren't looking too bad right now, but I'm just really dissapointed in my 711's right now, I'm not sure I'll be completely satidfied with the 712's. The SPT's might be a nice option though, only a tad more too.

The Hankook K104 is pretty nice as well.
