KYB AGX Adjustable struts
Anyone running these? I ordered a set this past weekend, to me they look like a great performance strut for a better price than a Koni. The front suspension is coming together for my LS1 87 camaro!

they're not exactly great for handling but they are pretty comfortable. I had koni yellows set on full stiff and then i switched to these for more civilized street driving and theyre pretty good at what they do.

So, since this car is a CMC track car, autocross and street car I should stay away from these struts? Looks like being adjustable at five different positions I'd be able to set the car up for racing and street or are the adjustments still soft? I just can't see paying $200.00 a piece for some Koni's, I've heard all your buying is the name.

i cant really say how good they are in a track car as ive never autocrossed on the kybs. but i can say that the yellows are highly praised for a reason. going from my stock shocks to the yellows i picked up about 8-10 seconds. given that was a course that was like 80% slaloms but that is a very impressive gain nonetheless. if you're building a track car don't go cheap, just buy the koni yellows...it will be worth it. besides, if you really are serious about it, the yellows will eventually be too soft for you and you'll want to revalve them even stiffer. just my 2c.

If I were racing I'd invest in a set of Ground Control custom vavled struts and some Penske 4-ways on the rear. I'd leave the KYB's for the little old lady from Pasadena- they will hurt your perfomance level. KYB's adjustments are just like your average 4x4 adjustable shock valving and inerts. They have slop in the compression to rebound cycle and then go real restrictive when on full settings still having that slop bobble inbetween the hard hitting upstorke and downstroke phases. Plus the adjustment increases TOGETHER both the compresion and rebound damper which makes them impossible to us as a racing adjustment tool.

I agree, if you are building a CMC car, shocks are going to pay off big time. IIRC, in CMC you are limited to a HP/weight ratio, so you can't make up any ground there. So, the only other places to make up time each lap, is under braking, and turning. Shocks/struts will be HUGE here. Don't skimp on go with something like a KYB.
Other options that might fit.... The two Dean listed, are rather expensive, if you need a slightly lower budget, I would talk to Sam Strano and/or Jason from UE. Either of them should be able to help you out, with custom valved Koni's, that will match your setup.

Thanks for the information! I might as well go with the Koni yellow's then since I've sunk so much money in the rest of the suspension. I've replaced all the bushings with red polyurethane one's, installed Eibach sportline springs, replaced all tie rod ends and added the red poly dust covers, Spohn LCA's, Adj. panhard bar, Adj. Torq Arm - T 56, Spohn weld in SFC's, Wonder bar, Spohn 3 - point strut tower brace, Baer front disc brake set-up w/ 4-piston calipers, stainless steel brake lines, Wilwood Prop. Valve, etc.. Think that'll be a good set-up with 17" rims?

17" is a good choice being that 16" is limited on tire choices.
Whatever you have, make sure the 17" rim chioce you make has clearance for whatever caliper you are running. I'd be curious to see a picture of what you have?

Dean,
I thought Baer made both a 6 piston, and 4 piston Alcon kit. (I could be wrong though).

again like dewey said you can get some excellent struts for cheap. just buy a set of blown koni yellows (i have a set for sale for 75 bucks- one good one and one blown PM me) and then send em in for revalving (~400 bucks last time i checked).
