So your torque arm is just floppin free?

That just sounds dangerous never mind a squeak, be in a sticky situation if your TQarm touches the ground when your moving forward...

Basically the torque arm controls the angle of your rear end, you need this part or another to replace it i.e. 4 link etc

Id fix it before you go squeak hunting

Squeaks are likely the rubber insulator ontop of the springs

Way to fix this is remove it and coat it with grease or some other lubricant that doesnt wash right off like motor oil

I don't know what the effects would be while driving, but with the way the torque arm is designed it will want to go up towards the trans tunnel if it were disconnected, not down towards the ground. But hey who knows, in any event its not good. New torque arm bushing is cheap but be aware there were three different types of torque arm brackets used on our cars, I would remove the clamshell bracket and take it with you when you go to buy the bushing to make sure you get one that will fit. Not sure about the squeek, could be anything. Replace the known bad part and go from there.

...hey crazy, ever step on the brakes? When you do, the rear tries to twist downward, thus the tq arm heads for the pavement. I hope this guy doesn't live around me, I like my vehicles the way they are......

Sounds like a pole vault waiting to happen! I always wondered how everyone gets their cars upside down on the side of the highway with no other cars involved! Get that mount fixed before driving anymore!

It is not a pretty sight. I had mine break on the 3-4 shift. What originally sounded & felt like the drive shaft, turned out to be the torque arm. It came up & hit the tunnel & when I let off it tried to drop, only to be stopped by the limit of the driveshaft/u-joint movement combined with the driveshaft loop. This was enough to rip the rear brake hose off, making the stop from 100+ even worse as I could not slow it by downshifting.

Check it out ASAP, it can kill you.

I've never driven a car with the torque arm disconnected, thats why I said I don't know what the effects would be while driving. My only experience with the torque arm disconnected is when its on jackstands and I'm working on it. I dunno what would happen but I agree its not safe, not a good idea to continue driving the car with the thing disconnected.
