i have heard of people putting 285's on an 8". but thats rediculous, i think 255 look good, i have 245 right now all the way around and i like them, i think when its time to get new tires ill go with the toyo proxes4 245 all the way around again.

My 255 55s never rub, but all I do is drive mine around town.
Same wheels are now on my GTA and, again, then don't rub:

Whats the biggest size you can use without screwing around with the speedo? I was just going to use 255/50/16 but if I can go bigger, why not

No one makes a tire bigger than a 255/50 in a 16" rim. So your pretty much stuck with that. The tire is a tad bit taller, but I think it fills the wheel well nicely and it will only effect your speedo by 2 or 3 mph. Depending on how yours reads, it might actually make it read correctly.

That's just it guys, he wants the biggest tire for his 16x8 wheels. There is only 1 or 2 tires available that are bigger than 255, BFG makes a 295 which is WAY too wide for an 8" rim. Also with a 16" rim you start loosing some of your sidewall that you guys with 15's are using to take up the mismatch between the tread width and the rim width. 255/50/16's fit about perfect on a stock rim. They don't buldge, they are only slightly bigger in diameter. They actually look nice and square on the rim, which gives them the appearance of a bigger tire. I actually got more even tire wear with a 255 than I did with a 245. With the 245's I was burning the edges off, with the 255 the tire wore much more evenly since the sidwalls were more vertical.

I too would like to know the maximum height and width of tire that will fit underneath a 1987 IROC Z/28 (both front and rear); I'm running 17 x 8.5 Edelbrock 454 rims with the standard offset all the way around. Thanks.
