Would a sway bar installed with no lube on any of the bushings cause a car accident?
My gf just totalled her firebird. She had Sears put in new front sway bar end links and all the bushings. Then a week later had to take it back to Sears because of a clunking noise. They apparently didnt install them properly and re-did the work. I was taking out the stereo after it was declared totaled and decided to climb under the car for $%^& and giggles. Not only were the bushings not greased, but there wasnt even any greasy residue on my hands after touching all of them. The accident happened at night in her town going around a corner. She doesnt really know what made her hit the tree, no patch of sand or anything. ( I just brushed it off as a woman driver, jk) I was driving the car 2 weeks ago on the interstate and noticed it felt funny going around corners, almost like the tires wanted to skid. And without knowing of her repairs or lack thereof. I commented about how it felt like her swaybar was malfunctioning. That drive was about a week after the 2nd visit to Sears...a week later was the accident. Do you guys think that a sway bar that they messed up the first time and never lubed would cause either too much body roll or not enough around corners? Or maybe even something else got bent by the fast food workers of the automotive industry? I need to know if someone should investigate this matter due to mechanical malfunction.

I am sure it is possible that an improperly installed swaybar could cause a steering problem which could lead to an accident. It might be something to look into. and if possible to look at the things around the swaybar. never know.. they may have removed something and then when reinstalling it not tightened it up the way they should...

I sincerely doubt the sway bar caused the accident. A lot of cars don't even have sway bars and they do just fine. And to the best of my knowledge an improperly installed sway bar would have no adverse effect on handling unless it interfered with the steering linkage, but you would have noticed that.
When I recently replaced my sway bar bushings and endlinks they were virtually disentegrated, and my car had absolutely no trouble avoiding trees.

A lack of lube wouldn't cause anything like that. Failure of some component or something might though.

How do you mess up installing sway bar endlinks?
Unless something is clearly disconnected or broken, there isn't much of a case against Sears, except for terrible service. She had to take it back twice for endlinks? That su cks.
