Anybody widen there stock IROC rims?

The fronts are fine at 8" ..I want to take the rears out to 9.5 maybe 10. I want to run a 255/50 /16 drag radial. I think this would give it a better contact patch and a fatter look out back. Ive searched and read some posts on widening the 91-92 style.

I love the stock look of my IROC rims so i want to keep them. Kinda sleeper approach, i guess. I think for about 300.00 i can get them done.

My plan is to take the fronts and use them on the rear. so when the rims are widened the offset will put some to the outside. because they have to add the width to the inside. this should lessen the chance of using spacers.

Then use the rears for the front to off set the bigger brakes (im going to install) because they push the fronts out about 1/4 to 3/8 more.

I hope this makes sence.

Sound like a good plan?

You can run a 255/50 drag radial on the stock 8" width

That's what I was thinking as I read his post. A 2" step in rim width isn't worth 1 cm of rubber. You could easily step up to a 295 tire with a 10" wide rim if you wanted to.

I thought about doing the same but never thought about using front rims on the back. Good idea. That would given an extra 10mm offset, which would help. See my thread here on the topic.

Yeah thanks i read that thread. did you ever get them done?

Yeah i have 255s on the car now. Ive seen 255s on the wider vette rims and it gives the tire and rim a much fatter look. I guess its a mostly for appearance idea. I just want wider rims out back and dont want to change them for aftermarket. I want it too look stock for the stealth factor.

Anybody have a 255/50/16 on an aftermarket rim in the 9/10 range? I Would like to see the sidewall difference. If you have a pic that would be cool.

No, I never went through with it for fear of too much backspacing. Your offset trick would buy about a 1/2" of backspacing but I'm still afraid of clearance issues in the rear. There are two other things that stopped me that don’t really apply to your rock wheels. First, most big brakes won’t fit under GTA wheels. Second, as much as I love the look (and weight) of my GTA wheels they're a complete pain in the rear to clean. I mean like 30 minutes per wheel if you really want to get all the brake dust out of the spokes.

255 on a 8" rim has a slight outward sidewall bulge. 255 on a 9" rim would look ok but 255 on a 10" rim would look silly. The sidewall would most likely taper up to the tread.

Thats to bad those are one of my favorite factory rims. There was someone making them in 16x9.5 that looked really close to GTAs. Simmons i think was the name of the company.

IM thinking 9.5 would be good. I beleive thats what the optional wheel was on the C4s.
