Instead of buying an aftermarket bar Could you take a piece of bar stock that fits snugly in the u shaped stock bar and weld it in for added strenth. The weight added is not a worry especially since it's in the rear but I just want to pick the brains of the more suspension savvy out there. Will there be any untoward consequences if I do this.

Box it, don't throw a chunk of bar stock in and weld it. Boxing it in will weigh less and not have the potential of flexing as much.
either way could be done, but half the gain of having an aftermarket arms is the adjustability. At any ride height other than stock(as in new, not 14+ year old springs) and the rear is off centered. It may be slight, but it is off. THe adjustables enable you to er-center the diff, thus improving the handling and feel of the car.

I had my stock piece boxed by an arc welder, i think he stuck some bar stock inside and then covered it with flat steel. Its rock solid, turns awesome now. I think they may have something with the adjustable one though, the right rear is lower on my car now, havent figured out why, maybe needs an alignment. I would definitely have the lower control arms boxed, this thing launches like you wouldnt believe.
