Car: 1991 Camaro RS
Engine: LO3
Transmission: T-5
89 Trans Am Im thinking of buying...
The add:
"I just don't have the time to fix up this pretty car as it should be.
170,000 + miles
305 TBI AT
T tops
Runs and drives but needs work
major items needing repair are :
front end rebuild
ignition or security fix (sometimes starts, sometimes nothing)
fuel system issues (fill past 3/4 tank and it leaks out fuel cannister in engine compartment, weird)
minor items:
windows leak
paint peeling
crazing to back spoiler
front seat bracket broke off but has been welded in place
interior rips/tears
radio brackets broken off
This car would be a good fixer upper as it is a classic TransAm and was always fun to drive in the summer with the T Tops off.
Selling AS IS.
$800 OBO
No Trades and Will not Part out"

The thing that has me worried is where he mentions front end trouble. I dont mind re-painting the entire thing, and some mechanical issues are to be expected when you have such a tight budget as mine. Front end parts are expensive though... Do any of you have any input?
I love these firebirds, and I love a good project. When I buy this car I would take the attitude that it will never be "done" until the day I loose interest in it and sell, or it gets totaled (both are hopefully a long way down the road)
Also, what kind of fuel efficiency would I expect form this car? With a car that has over 150k miles, would it be needing a full rings, pistons, bearings and gaskets soon?
Any input you guys have is awesome. I have a car that I drive everyday, and I know that when it is all said and done, I will have paid more for less car, but I will be able to look at it with pride and say "Thats MY car, that I had to do...." you get the idea....
What kind of prices am I looking at to fix most of this ****... I have a fully functional garage and a family full of mechanics. Also, this area has 5 junkyards in it, 2 of which are within 5 miles from my house. Alot of these parts will come from these junkyards...

The body itself "appears" to be worth the asking price.

Front-end work isn't that expensive. $325, tops. Add some struts on top of that and you'll be pretty much "new".
It sounds like a decent value if you can do the work.

Engine: Someday again I will have another!!
The rims are worth half the asking price. Doesn't seem like a bad deal at all to me. Too bad it wasn't TPI. I had a '88 Trans AM with 165K miles on the 305 TBI and it was running strong when I got rid of it. -Nick.
