Steering Box Questions.

Ive got some play in the steering wheel, and it does'nt seem to be comeing from the suspension. The guy who did my alignment sayed that you can adjust or tighten the box up? I think he was bullshitting me on that though. Is it possible to adjust? And are there any special tools needed for replacing it? The car has an airbag.

Also, needs wheel bearings and the rotors are warped. Anything you guys recommend? Its a 92 Rs. Can you use the High Performance stuff or ? I've heard there are 2 types of bearings.? Getting parts from the dealer if that matters. Thanks guys

Yes it is adjustable. It has 2 adjustments; one for the end-play of the shaft that the steering column goes to, and one for the shaft that the Pitman arm is mounted on. You adjust them in that order.

If you buy good quality rotors, not the cheeep chinesium ones from AZ or the like, they tend not to warp so bad.

The bearings are a set 6, a set 34, and the seal is a 8871. One complete set like that per side.

Do you think between the bad wheel bearing and the warped rotor, would that cause the car to be a little touchy under braking? Also, Just replaced the pads not 2,000 miles ago and Im already getting some sqeaking from the brakes. Anything else I should look into replacing while its down?

Reading up on adjusting the steering box now. Getting parts tomorrow. Thanks for the info man.

My car had play in the steering and it was from the intermediate shaft between the steering box and the steering column. I replaced it with a good use one and that was it.
