Bent frame??

I bought an 84 Camaro z-28 about a year and a half ago. it has been on jackstands for a while with the trans out. i got this as a box job from someone who had a 200c trans in it and the torque are from the rear wouldn't reach the trans. ... I bought a 700 r4 and when i put it in i forund that the trans crossmember that i took out won't fit now, its to long. i may get some spreders and spred the rails out but i wanted some feedback first.

also the doors and trunk all open and shut normaly.. no other signs of trouble. thanks-Matt
tried spreders and no luck.. can someone measure their trans crossmember from bolt to bolt on an 84 z-28?

Sounds weird. Are you sure the crossmember didnt get damaged/bent/whatever while it was off the car? I've had stranger things happen with roomates, friends, and things like water pump pulleys. I dont even know what it was used for in the 2 days it was off my car but it sure wasnt reusable.

yes

the crossmember isn't bent but it may be the wrong one. the gut i bought it from took an 83 camaro with a th 200c and put it in. the crossmember may have been installed wrong. now i'm tring to find a crossmember for an 84 just to see if i'm right. thanks for the help. -matt
