ALIGNMENT OR NOT

I recently added new crome 16 x 8 iroc stye rims too my 1982 Z.---car use too were out tires bad in the front about 6 years ago but my alignment man, fixed this problem at putting it at diff specs.--The old rims [after market] i have no idea what the back spacing was or the off set. [15 INCH,] ---NOW i need too know if i should realign the car or not. ?? afraid they may put specs back too where they were and will ruin tires.[ ORIG ALIN GUY GONE] The new rims have zero off set, [ all four ] -- and 4.50 back spacing.--- would just going too them change alinment if the older rims had diff specs

Re: ALIGNMENT OR NOT

Camber is camber and toe is toe, doesn't matter what size wheel, tire or backspacing is on the car. So no the new wheels won't throw off your alignment.

They might however need different alignment specs. A lower profile tire may not need as much camber to keep from wearing the out side edge of the tire. This is really splitting hairs and in reality you won't need to touch a thing.

You had a good alignment guy in that he actually looked at what was going on and adjusted your alignment to compensate. Most alignment guys do nothing more than make sure the alignment is some where within factory specs......which wouldn't even count if you were playing horse shoe with a hand grenade.

Re: ALIGNMENT OR NOT

THANKS BMmonti, thats what i thought.---as for the guy that align the veh a few times, over the years, he was the best in the area.--not like all the other places that put the veh too thier factory specs and thats it, even if its not right.---i work at local chrysler dealer and we send out the align, and thier all the same. put too spec;s and if still not right ? oh well.-------but ill have too find someone in near future too do a future alighn, because of the guy passed away.------- As too specs i see in a book here that the 82 specs are diff than lets say 87 year. what changed ?????
