locking lugnuts

yea, this'll sound funny

ok, so i went to go and check my brakes and wheel bearings on my gta during class, only to find out that after removing the black lugnut caps, that on each wheel i have one of the anti-theft locking lugnuts on. unfortunatly, the guy i bought the car from doesn't have the socket for it anymore. how would i go about removing this lugnut, cause i'd really like to be able to take the tires off eventually. a buddy of mine had mentioned the gator socket, the one with all the pins inside of the socket, but the dang things round, so im not sure if that'd work or not. id like to be able to remove it without damaging the rim either. advice would be much appreciated.

thanks in advance.

Re: locking lugnuts

Kinda defeats the purpose of a locking lugnut doesnt it?

What a waste of time those things are...

Re: locking lugnuts

lol, well i just tried pounding a socket onto one. it worked, and the lugnuts fine, so now all i gotta do is see if i can get the other three off the same way. if not, ill probably just buy the two lugnut sockets for it.

yea, they are kinda a waste of time, since i wasted three hours at the school, and now only to find out ill have to buy another set of locking lugnuts to replace these 4. oh well, nothings easy.

Re: locking lugnuts

lol im glad you asked how to get those pesky things off. Ive got one locking bolt on each of my centerline rims and i never really thought much about it till now. No clue where the key went. I was also told to use the gator grips to get them off, but i'm sure the pins would bust off or bend when being torqued that hard. Looks like ima order that kit.

Re: locking lugnuts

yea, idk on the gator grips. pounding a socket onto the end of the lug nut seemed to work fine, but it wasn't really torqued down so it came off easily, but if i can't get the other three off ill buy the kit.

Re: locking lugnuts

FWIW, sears and any decent tool supplier will have sockets for removing stripped/rounded nuts/bolts which will work fine or this also, if there is room to get something like that over it (some of the newer wheels you won’t have room).

Otherwise, taking a big nut, holding it against the top of the nut/lock and filling the center hole with a welder welding it to the top will give you a hex to put a socket on it, and worst case, you can usually knock them loose with an air hammer and a chisel.

Re: locking lugnuts

locks are useless if they want your rims your not gonna stop them with locking lugs. If they have jacks and all that with them to get the car up in the air there gonna have the tools to get the lugs off.

Re: locking lugnuts

Definitely skip the locking lugs - a major PITA!

Locks of any kind only keep an honest person out.

If your rims are that fancy, up your insurance policy and let them get stolen easily, without damage to the rest of your car!
