Re: Formula and WS6

pretty intense, does it have performance suspension on the passenger dash? the only other easy way would be the WS6 RPO code in the center consol armrest thingy. another way would be to see if it has 4 wheel disks etc.

WS6 on my 87 formula 350TPI consisted of the largest sway bars avaiable ever for our cars, 36mm front and 24mm rear, 4 wheel disks, higher spring rates tuned for the car, delco blisten shocks i believe, and i think 16x8 alloy rims with 245/50/r16 gatorbacks, and i believe the quick steering ratio, u would have to do all this.

ur best bet is to go all aftermarket and search ur center consol for the RPO code sheet and see what u got.

not worth it, throw in some aftermarket springs, shocks, struts, swaybars and the steering and u'll have better than WS6, dont forget to upgrade LCA's panhard rod, bushings etc

Re: Formula and WS6

my guess is that u dont have all the WS6 options, the only real way to check would be to measure ur front and rear sway bars or find the RPO code. i would have thought that the formulas would have all had it since they are the souped up base model and pontiacs lil racer. basically all performance without all the looks and crap. ive seen people with the performance badge but not the WS6 suspension. i would upgrade it anyways bc i have and its alot better than the WS6, i thought the WS6 was bad ***! but since upgrading its a whole new animal.

Re: Formula and WS6

Well, it's got a blown engine right now, so i'm not in too big of a hurry to upgrade the suspension, but i will try to find the RPO, you said in the center concole, right? and I'll measure my swaybars

Re: Formula and WS6

yea center consol they are taped to the inside, they fall off tho. u can get a measuring tape from energy suspenison or get somehting that will squeeze, like a micrometer or something and it will be in mm.

a powerful engine is crap without a good base/suspension. i would def look into upgrading while u have it out. just my 2 cents.

Re: Formula and WS6

i agree and i definately am planning on upgrading, i'm also going to do some mods to the 700r4 that my AT instructor at Lincoln Tech taught me so as not to spend money on a shift kit. I'm just kinda having a hard time deciding exactly where i'm going with the suspension because of the exhaust i'm running (don't want the side pipes to bottom out you know).

no RPO code, it may have fallen off and been thrown out years ago, tho. Ive only had the car a year. Still need to measure my sway bars

Re: Formula and WS6

I'm pretty sure all Formulas came with WS6. Mine was originally a TBI,auto, pegleg rear car with drum rear brakes and had WS6.

All 3rd-gen Formulas came with WS6.

WS6 is a suspension package only. Contrary to common belief, it does NOT include 4-wheel disks, double-piston front calipers, and fast-ratio steering. It was my understanding the the 16" wheels started in '88, but I could be wrong on that.

My '88 Formula has the "Performance Suspension" badge, and the WS6 RPO code. It does have the high-effort quick-ratio steering. Same spring rates as the Camaro 1LE package, and sway bars as thick as your wrist. But it also has drum rear brakes and single-piston front calipers.

Just thought I'd help clarify. Or fan the flames.

Re: Formula and WS6

woah .. I did not know that the formulas were standard WS6 ... that explains the good cornering that I get off quick turns... cool ... gonna get some WS6 badges then ...

You sure about that? The 1LE RPO codes I have seen are generally lower spring rate than the standard IROC/Z-28/WS6 springs.
