need traction bad
don't really know where to post this but anyway whenever I line up at redlights all I do is spin. Is there a way to get my rps up before I take off? it is so bad that I almost lost to a neon. what can i do to hook better?
I have a non posi 2.73 rear.
I was thinkin probably
3.23 posi rear from 4th gen. anything else?

Re: need traction bad
more gear will want to spin harder.. it takes more power to spin 2.73's than 3.23's but a posi will help too.. then get slicks or drag radials.. and you can try foot braking the car.. left foot on the brake and right on the gas and give some gas to load up the converter.. then off brake and floor gas at the same time..

I'm not trying to be an ***, but simply learning to roll into the throttle will do wonders for traction.
Case in point, I have a buddy who couldn't hook up his bone stock LO3 no matter what he did. All 160 rwhp just shredded his tires to 30 or 40 mph. In goes the new 5 grand motor that makes some where near 350 rwhp and will run him into the 12's easy and the car just dead hooks from a standstill. It drives him nuts, but the power band is moved up so much with the big heads, hsr and cam that the power band naturally comes in slow enough to transfer weight before the power comes in.
After learning to drive well, go the usuall route of sticky tires and playing with the instant center (aka relocation brackets)

The lca's and the relocation brackets are needed long before the tq arm. Also, good shocks make a big difference.
The gears are a 50/50 thing. Yes, it takes more power to turn a higher(numerically lower) gear, but steeper gears can/will spin worse in a car that doesn't hook. The steeper the gear, the faster you bring wheel speed up. If the tires start to break loose, you actually have more of a chance of spining them with higher(numerically lower) gears.
A limited slip/posi will always be easier to hook up than an open rear.
As BMmonteSS said, you need to start by playing with your launch technique. I was pulling high 1.8X 60fts with a car that was completely factory(cat-back exhaust). Had a big stereo in the trunk though.

Re: need traction bad
I respectfully disagree. I say torque arm/posi rear first, but that's my humble opinion.
