Basic should do you fine. A torque wrench will come in handy. You may need a swivel for your socket when you go to mess with the idler arm.

It can be nice to have a tie rod fork or puller depending on how well they are stuck in there. If you are replacing them though, you will be alright beating the crap out of it. Don't forget to grease everything up really well, if the tie rods and idler arm have zurk fittings lube them at least every 6 months.

Go to Autozone and get a pickel fork and a BFH (big f'in hammer) to go with it. The fork is $10 and you can keep it or return it after your done (if you do the rent a tool) and for the hammer, 3lbs. did the trick for me (also $10 fom AZ). This is cheap stuff and will save you a lot of time. I could not get my idler arm off without the fork and hammer. A torque wrench is also a requirement when working with the suspension and steering so you can torque everything to spec.
