non-serp. pwr. steering pump w/ remote reservoir??

I just finished droped in my new 350 w/ LT1 top end and with the coolant exiting the front of the heads I can't fit my stock power steering pump in any more. Just wondering if anybody nows of a non-serp. vehicle that had a remote reservoir? I could fit just a pump in there but the reservoir won't clear, any ideas?? Thought maybe an older cavalier or something, but I don't know if the pump has a similar bolt pattern. Thanks.

Most astro vans had the remote reservior. The older ones were the regular saginw pump with a round tank/casing around the pump(same size as pump) with the remote res plumbed in. Any of the saginaw pumps will accept any of the GM saginaw-style pullies. It takes a special puller/installer to remove/install powersteering pullies, but it is available as a free rental from most parts stores.

I would find this pump and re-use your old pully so that the pump will bolt in and the pully offset will fit your belt drive.

edit: - for some reason I can't currently reply, even though my control panel says I'm fine..... board issue?
anyhow, yes, I had not thought of it, but you could simply put your pump in the astro casing and then hook up the remote reservior

thanks a million, that is just what I was looking for. Judging from the pictures I can fit one of the ones with the casing around the pump in with no problems(I'll use my own pulley). or maybe I could just bolt the casing on to my pump and convert it. Then run a remotre reservoir. Time to check the bone yards.

hey, if you are still interested, check out Southwest Speed. they have a website, www.southwestspeed.com and they sell on ebay. they have a power steering setup with a remote resivour. i picked one up the other day and will be running it on my car once i get it back together. the pump has AN type connections as well as the reservoir. they offer it in head and block mount, and have the brackets for each, only issue as of yet is that its made for a short water pump, i got some spacers from them and i think they will work out. something to look at. the setup including the pump, pulley, bracket, reservoir, and bolt spacers cost me 193.18 shipped.

this is the block mount version and the one i got

The early GM 396 big block cars had a GM pump with a remote resevoir. You can use that pump but you might have to change the fitting that screws into the pump so the correct hose screws into it.

Thanks, I'll check that out too. As for the southwest speed one, thanks for the thought but that's a little more than I want to spend. If worse comes to worse and I can't find anything, then I'll just get a manual box out of an s-10 but I'd really like to keep the power steering. I'm heading to the bone yard end of the week to check for astro vans and I'll check the web for something off an old 396.

Why not just swap to a LT1 bracket with the PS and 140 amp alt?
