I've been doing lots of searching and reading, and can't find the answer anywhere, so I'm posting...

I have a 1986 TransAm, and it has aftermarket 15" wheels, two of which are bent, and leak air. So, I want to replace the set. I don't want to spend a lot of money right now, so I am fine with stock wheels. The door sticker states my car came with 245/50/16 wheels, so I would like to get that size back.

I will be hitting the junkyards to get "new" wheels, so what years can I get which would fit? (without spacers) Would any 82 - 02 wheels work? I am looking at the 16x8 alum. 20 slot.

Alternatively, would the same year Camaro wheels work as well?

any third gen well fit as far as i know. the 4th gen wheels will in spacers in order to fit.

 

So, just to confirm, any '82 to '92 wheel can be used?

Yes, Both Camaro and Firebird. Since you are looking at 16". Any will fit. All have the same bolt pattern.

Yep. Just remember that the 3rd gen 16" wheels have different offsets front and rear. If you look at the rim you'll see 'front' or 'rear' cast into it.
