Firebird Rims
Bought a 1989 Firebird and was curious about a couple things involving the rims. I was first wondering if these rims were standard on a Firebird and I was also wondering how i would go about restoring them. There a bit rough and are pitted but I was just thinking of sanding them a ***t load and then painting them silver and spraying clear coat or something on top. I'm just wondering If it would look alright if I did. I just want it to look semi-decent cause right now moneys tight so i cant afford new rims.
Note: The wheels seem to look a lot better in the picture but there rougher then it looks

are those wheels painted to begin with? something tells me they are aluminum, in which case i cant reccomend sanding them. all you really need is a good polisher. i have an 85 vette that had some nasty looking wheels and then i bought a 7 in buffer/polisher. spent maybe an hour on each wheel and now they look brand new (ill post some before and after pics when i get home later) but for that matter, i reccomend you get the wheels that are on the t/as since i think they look better (up to you, im a chevy guy anyways so i dont know too much about you pontiacs)

heres the pictures as promised. unfortunately, i think the camera made the before look better than they were, and i think it doesnt do justice to the afters but you can still tell theres a big difference and for four hours time and the cost of a polisher and some compound its really worth it.

Re: Firebird Rims
Nice rims. From what I've read, these rims are just a mesh style rim that came on the Firebird. I'm almost certain that it's not aluminum simply because I took the tire off and it was way to heavy for aluminum. Can't really decide as to what I would do. Buffing it would be good but like I said its pitted like crazy so im gonna have to fix that first.

Re: Firebird Rims
thanks. i got lucky because they were discolored as sh** but there was no pitting on them. now i just need to do the same to my iroc! attatched find a photo for the wheels i was talking about, theyre in my opinion the best wheels pontiac ever put out. sorry its not the greatest picture ever, but it was the only one i could find. if youre interested theres usually a set or two floating on ebay, alot cheaper than buying a new set of gaudy aftermarkets and keeps that stock look too.
