More steering angle

Ok i know alot of people on here kind of look down on drifting, but i need help...i drive a 1990 iroc with an ls1 motor with the ls6 throttle body everything else is stock..now...ive done my inner and outer tie rods and the front spindles..... the problem is my steering degree/angle is very small, at full lock im only about half way into my slide................. ill post a vid to show u just what im talking about...
http://youtube.com/watch?v=KGNgqLw-8TI

this is not me but this is whats happening......if it could have a little more steering angle then it would kill all those little import **** cans.
Thank you in advance.... and please no flaming on the drifting........i kinda think its more exiting going sidewayz than straight (but i drag also)

Re: More sterring angle

Do you own a welder?? There is no good way to get more steering angle without doing some serious cutting or going to a much smaller width wheel.

You are getting into the sway bar with the inside tire and the frame/brake cable/a-arm with the inside tire. The frame will be fairly easy to notch, but moving the sway bar and brake lines around to get more clearance is going to be tricky.

After you get all the interference problems figured out then you need to have your steering arms on your spindle shortened. Welding on cast iron is a bit taboo and not something I would want to trust going 100 mph sideways through a turn. Because of the unique layout of the 3rd gen front end you are not going to find any spindles that will give you more steering angle.

Unfortunately this is one of those mods that if you have to ask then you probably don't posses the skills necesary to make the changes.

Re: More sterring angle

That's been brought up here before, in this thread - - -
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/susp...ing-angle.html

but also at the domestic drifting forum.

http://www.driftingforums.com/phpBB2...steering+angle

What I've doen for now is run 2 inch spacers in front with low offset wheels.
So far I can use all of my angle without rubbing, I can go all the way to the stops. If you check the link you see that the G body YA box has a few more degrees of angle (different stops inside). My proposed idea is to use one of these boxes and then shave just a bit off the outside stops on the front lower control (A) arms.

Got any pics or vids of the Iroc in action?

Re: More sterring angle

If you are truely running 600 lb/in coil overs you are in for a ride. Thats the equivalent of running 1200 lb/in springs in the stock location. You'll need something in the 350 range in the back to balance it out, probably stiffer to make it loose.

The modifications that soultron speak of will get you a few more degrees of travel, but nothing like what I've seen done to the "pro's" cars. They are capable of well over 45 degrees of steering angle.

actually the Gbody has close to 40 degrees as it is and I think I have a way to get the other 5 or so, but yes, there's gonna be cutting. and heart break.
Think of it as me helping others raise the value of their cars.
