Odd front end noise, insight would be nice!

Well, since I got the car, there has been a wierd noise from the front end. It is a loud clunk (for lack of better terms) from the right-front of the car. When it happens, I can feel it through the steering wheel faintly, and the floor boards too. If I had to best describe the noise, I would say it sounds like the coil spring is moving around or relieving tension somehow. It makes a "der-dunk" noise and sometimes "dink-dunk-DUNK!!" (Ok, now you think im a retard )

The noise usually happens when I back out of my driveway and cut the wheel to the right, or if I am going slow in a paring lot and cut the wheel all the way to the right to make it into a spot. Usually makes the noise right after the wheel steering bounces off the stop. I think the right combination of brakes, right steering, and speed triggers it. Its not the normal squeaks and groans I get from backing out my driveway, or pulling into a driveway up a hill.

I was riding with a buddy who is also a Technician and he thinks control arm bushings. But a bunch of my other friends dont think the cars safe to ride in anymore! Thanks!

Hmmmmm when my torque are bush went out it thudded but that was in a head 1 to 2 shift, cant recall if it did it at slow speeds........ does the car seem to track to one side or another at highway speeds?? what about when you bind the chassis (ie going into a driveway that has that little drain slew thigy that runs on the edge of pavement in sub divisions).... i know it wouldnt apply to the camaros/birds but i got a dodge caravan (part runner LOL) but i did that when the tranny mount went out...... that kind of noise is hard to figure out, If you feel that you could safely have a friend drive it out of your drave way (sice that is when it does it) and you sit on the fender/spring tower with the hood up, maybe you could get i better idea where it is comming from...... id do it LOL but its just a thought

Have you checked your sway bar links. If they are loose/ worn out you will get a clunk in the steering like you are having.

How do you check those? Just grab and shake? I never had a car with endlinks on the swaybar before.

Also, does anyone make a complete front-end poly bushing kit? Or even a rebuid kit with new balljoints, tie rod ends, poly bushings for everything, because I want that tightness of a new car.

Yes just grab the sway and shake or do a visual. You should be able to see if the bushings are rotted. Also check the sway bar bushings as well. It is easy to change the end links and bushings as well as the sway bar bushings at the same time. And yes there are a couple of manufactures that make poly kits for F-bodies. Energy Suspension makes a kit that you can get from Summit for about $100 or you can buy just the sway bar bushings and the end link kit.
