Wonder Bar and K-Member Braces?

i was wondering if a wonder bar or k member braces would help me any.

with the set up i have, i was wondering if those would do anything for me seeing how i have a convertible. i wanted to get as much frame stiffening as i can and i already have SFC's from spohn.net

Also, if anyone could recommend anything else that might help me that would be great

thx

Re: Wonder Bar and K-Member Braces?

i was wondering if it was worth the money for it

i didnt know if it really stiffened up the chassis much or not like the SFC's do

the main thing i want to prevent is tweaking it when i really stomp on the gas... of course the wheels would actually have to connect for that to happen

I was JYing today. I saw an IROC with all kinds of goodies, to include a Wonderbar and the braces you mention. Had I been so inclined I could have purchased both for $10 or $15. At those prices, or prices near those, I'd knock myself out. By the way, have you verified what's currently in your car? I'd be somewhat surprised if you didn't already have the braces.

Re: Wonder Bar and K-Member Braces?

I noticed improved steering response after installing the GlobalWest wonder bar. Most of the rest of my suspension was stock TA at the time. Mine already had the K-member supports. Look to see if yours does already. They are triangle shaped steel parts, black painted, attach to the front of the K to the inner frame rails and drivers is under the steering box area....pass is similar location.

Re: Wonder Bar and K-Member Braces?

the set up i have
What's that?

You talking about some springs or some kind of soft maintenance parts like that, and calling that "set up"? Tha'ts not "setup", that's just stuff that wears out and you change. Kind of like asking, "what kind of heads should I buy with the setup I've got, I have Champion spark plugs and a Fram oil filter?"

Real simple.

Does it have a wonder bar or a K-member brace?

Then they'll help.

Re: Wonder Bar and K-Member Braces?

by set-up i meant engine, transmission and such

if i remember correctly the 92 rs camaros, or maybe it was just the convertibles that never came with anything above a 5.0. but who knows, i could be wrong

so seeing how i have a 383, that extra torque with the already weaker frame from having a convertible makes me worry about tweaking or breaking stuff

thats why i asked about braces and such... and yeah i do have the k-member braces

i might look into the wonder bar if you say you got improved steering response

thx

Re: Wonder Bar and K-Member Braces?

Yeah an RS wouldnt have had a 350. But I did hear of a special order you could do and get one. But thats heresay and not fact. My 1st step ,if you are looking to improve the handling, would be figuring out your sway bars. The biggest improvement will come from them and springs. Stock the largest were 36mm front. Most WS6/TA/Iroc/Z28 had the 34mm which is just as functional in the improvement department. 32mm was more standard and lower size bars were on the lo-po and V6 cars. If you have a 32 or above already, I say keep it and add the wonderbar. Look for a bigger bar to pop up cheap and snag it. Big bars are on e-bay all the time and some go for real cheap. Keep on the look out. Youll want to match the rear too. On a 32mm front, the rear should be a 21mm. On a 34mm the rear is a 23mm. And I believe the 36mm bars are paired with a 24or25mm. I remember I think the FE2 suspension had a 30/19combo. Springs you will find in great abundance. I have Eibach ProKit. These are excellent handling and just slightly lower than stock by 1.5 inches I think. The Sportlines are much lower. There are many brands to choose from there. But realistically with a vert, get subframe connectors too.

Re: Wonder Bar and K-Member Braces?

Theres not much fact or heresay about a 350 in a convertible. There are 350 cars out there but none have the correct VIN for convertible.

Anyway, you have the k-member braces. I suppose the wonderbar will give you a little better steering feel. More wont do much IMHO. You need to address the area of the car where the roof was. Its going to be custom work. Tie your RH and LH frame or subframes together. Thats where the car is flexing.

Re: Wonder Bar and K-Member Braces?

My 82 never had K-member braces. So I added a wonder bar and K-braces and it helped alot .... a excellent upgrade to a car without a wonderbar!
