wheel problems
my question is i bought a 91 bird and i found an 82 camaro for parts mainly the wheels and tires. they fit and ran fine on the camaro but when i put them on my bird the drivers side rubs the tie rod on the bottom.. any suggestions. i replaced the struts and all the tierods and center link. the tires are 245/50/16 on american racing python wheels.I am taking it to the alignment shop hoping this may help. thanks for any input...

Re: wheel problems
Hi Trying to visualize how its rubbing the bottom of the tie rod end, you mean where the grease fitting is? If so you probablly need a tie rod end. Just take it to get aligned and have the mechanic check the tie rods, If it needs replaced it's cheap.

Re: wheel problems
I replaced both tie rods iner and outer the center link the idler arm and but struts in the front. and i switched the control arm from the camaro to the bird.
----------
also the lip of the wheel is what rubs the bottom part of the tie rod.

Re: wheel problems
Just put a wheel spacer on between the wheel and the hub so that the tierod has at least 1/8 inch clearance. THe factory spindles are not machined accurate. so need to have the wheels spaced out a tad.
Just make sure you put equal size spacers on each side of the car so the scrub radius is identical on each. If not, then the car will pull to the wider side under braking.
Edit- Note I did not say equal size gap, I said equal size spacer. The gap on each side can be different because of machining and casting tolerances.
