LCA hilarity

So I was driving around town and I noticed that my car felt weird. It was also kind of making a noise, which sounded like something was rubbing somewhere. I figured my brake pads were wearing out and made a mental note to check it out when I got home. But, before that, I had errands to do. So after I did my stuff, I get in the car and start backing out of a parking space. All of a sudden the car feels like the rear end disappeared and it's just sitting on the rear tires. I let go of the clutch and it rolls forward just fine. WTF?!

That happened:

Doesn't look like a very good design.

Re: LCA hilarity

no torque arm i take it looking at that design, guessing the metal finally fatigued at that joint point and broke.

Re: LCA hilarity

very similiar to the lakewood traction action bars / g-force ladderbar/lca's. - all in all, it's a bad design, and now you know the results.

Re: LCA hilarity

What type of bushing is that on the chassis side? It looks like there is not a spherical bearing. With no free moving bearing, whenever you turn with a setup like that, you bind up, and that probably overworked the metal in a twisting force. I broke a Spohn LCA in a simlare fashion (broke where the bushing went into the tube).

This kids, is why I always tell people, they need to run a spherical bearing on the LCA's to avoid bind!

Just so there is no doubt, if you look at that flake of paint coming off of the edge of the cut you can tell it clearly wasn't cut. It seems like that was a bad spot on the LCA to be putting a lot of pressure on, although I don't know what kind of forces get put on that (apparently the manufacturer didn't either).

Re: LCA hilarity

Yea the other LCA is in an earlier stage of cracking, so it was definitely shitty design and not sabotage. The 9" did not come with a torque arm bracket, but did come with these LCAs. I wanted to enjoy the 4.30s, so I threw it on without a torque arm, just temporarily. I guess it's back to the 10 bolt for a while

Incidentally, does anyone know where I can buy a torque arm bracket for the 9"? I know moser makes them, but I can't find them listed for sale *anywhere*

Re: LCA hilarity

does your 9" have the mounting tubes for the bracket? if so just give moser a call and ask if you could buy one

Re: LCA hilarity

currie sells just the bracket and tubes IIRC, give them a call and ask. quit wasting time looking online when a 30 second phone call to moser or currie would answer it. Neither of their websites are very helpful.

Re: LCA hilarity

Looks like that was like that for some time, looking at the rust on the break, but at the very bottom of the break, you can see where it was barley holding it all togeteher. I bet you was like WTF HAPPENED?
