K-member swap-Brake Lines

So it looks like I will have to open up the brake lines to swap out my k-member. Are there any tips to make this less "painfull" or can it be avoided somehow? Thanks for any help

P.S.

Any other tips for swaping out the k-member would be greatly appreciated.

Re: K-member swap-Brake Lines

open up the tangs, you might get to reuse them, if not go buy some brake lines and bend them up with your hands. parts stores sell them.

Re: K-member swap-Brake Lines

Swapped out the K-member on my '88 & brake lines stay intact. Just remove the brackets that bolt the brake lines to the K-Member & carefully drop the member. No need to remove the brake lines & open up the hydraulic system.

Re: K-member swap-Brake Lines

Thanks for the info. I was concerned that the brake lines could complicate the job.

Re: K-member swap-Brake Lines

i never touched mine.
bent them a lil after the installation and they are hidden behind the k member.
WARNING.... make sure you get all the brake line brackets before dropping the k member.
when you think youve got them all, there is always one more.

Re: K-member swap-Brake Lines

Thanks for the replies. I took a good look at the K-member and attached brake lines in a wrecking yard. The car had to motor out so I think I got a good view of all the brackets. Thanks again.

Re: K-member swap-Brake Lines

When I installed my spohn k member I had to re bend some of the lines on the driver side. I think it was where the tabs mounted to the k member. I did it all by hand and have had no problem.
