Lowering springs, higher?
Hey Everyone.
I picked up some used lowering springs locally. And i decided to put them in this past week. Their definately not stock springs, the coils are thicker, and closer together.
How ever, after i have the 2 front ones in. I dont notice that it got any lower. It almost seems higher?
My Dad's 1LE is 7" from the bottom of the side GFX just behind the front wheel. My iroc is 9" off the ground.
Does this seem high?
Do the springs need to set in?
Could there be any other issues?
Thanks!
Sheldon

Re: Lowering springs, higher?
it will settle some. from what i have heard going from stock springs to lowering springs on a thirdgen will often stay the same or make it higher due to the fact that the springs are normally wornout.

Re: Lowering springs, higher?
Your stock springs made the car much higher when the car was new.
but now the "lowering" springs are higher than old worn out springs.
If the goal was better handling, you scored!
If you just wanted the car lower than it was, bummer...
The new springs will firm up the ride and reduce body roll, even
with the higher ride hight than the old worn out springs.
IMHO you are better off but you won't see much settling with higher rate coils...

9" is way too high, you didn't get the spring seated in the upper pocket. It's actually really easy to do. Look up through the hole in the middle of the A-arm with a flashlight and see if the spring is seated properly......I'd bet money they aren't.

I had the same problem...like bm said - they're not seated in the upper pocket correctly. When you look through the a arm - you'll be able to see pockets in the top of the k member that the sit in...there's a little circle that sits inside the spring ... and a circle housing that they kinda fit into. Whatever you do, take the load off the spring by pulling it apart again (drop your a arm, and take as much tension off the spring as you can), then re-seat it properly. Don't try to get them to slip into the housing with the suspension still bolted up...not the safest thing to do, and w/the pressure on the spring w/the rubber dampener, odds are they wont slip anyway. Quicker, but not smart.
