3rd gen spindle-what material?
ive seen this tossed around several threads.
are the stock spindles cast STEEL or cast IRON.
im no metal expert.

For the most part, they are cast iron. However, the part that pokes out, and what the bearings ride on, is a separate, pressed in, piece. It could very well be, and likely is, Steel.

When I cut my caliper mounts off to install an aftermarket brake system, it looked like steel to me. Cast iron can be easily broken from a sharp hit. Drop a cast crankshaft of camshaft on the floor and it can break since they are cast iron. Hit a spindle very hard with a hammer and it will bend before it breaks.

Nodular Iron is used for automotive castings. A stonger material then normal gray iron castings.
