i went online and bought new bolts for my suspension rebuild but couldnt find a set for rear shocks.

any one who knows can you tell me what size bolts i need? and should a local hardware store or home depot be adequate enough to find those bolts?

Take a sample with you if you have one and make sure you get a "grade 8" bolt. Also something coated so they will not rust.

Re: which bolts for rear shocks?

Seems like I remember bolts coming preinstalled in new rear shocks... on the bottom anyway...

Re: which bolts for rear shocks?

Yes, most replacement shocks will not install like factory and require a special shock mounting bolt. The replacement shocks should come with the necessary hardware. If you're using replacements and don't have the bolt/hardware any of the major auto parts places should have it hanging in their equivalent of the 'help' section at AZ. Shop around I've seen crazy difference in prices.

If you're re-installing the factory type shocks, you only need a high grade nut to fit the bolt end on the shock.

Re: which bolts for rear shocks?

Lowes has always had a better selection of nuts and bolts IMHO. Also, their "Grade 8" hardware is coated in something to prevent rust. So they all appear "yellowish".

Re: which bolts for rear shocks?

That yellowish coating is called zinc dichromate, if I remember correctly.

My Bilsteins came with all hardware necessary (top nut and bottom bolt). I can check the sizes when I get home if needed.

FWIW, I have had good luck at Westlake (Ace) Hardware finding odd sized bolts and nuts.
