ive seen an article in a magazine about installing one of these, but my question is, on the street, how hard would it be to steer? im thinking of going this route because i need a new p/s pump, and if i went with the manual box i wouldn't, plus my pulley setup would be cheaper since i wouldn't have to run p/s, plus i wouldn't have to buy new lines. so once you figure all that stuff into it its not that expensive, but how hard would it be to turn the car? once i had the fan belt break on my s10, and it was terrible to steer, so would it be that hard? i figured it cant be that bad cause its meant to be manual you know? just wanted to hear from someone who had one, thanks!

S10 box bolts right it and is cheaper. it's definitely harder to turn, but skinnies help a lot.

X2 on the S10 box. While moving you wont have much trouble steering. It will actually probably feel pretty good. But if you have to go from a dead stop and merge over a lane, or pull out of a parking spot...or when in parking lots, you'll have fun. Skinnies will help, but you are asking about street driving, so I assumed you werent running skinnies on the street...
On that note...getting a manual steering box, to avoid replacing the power steering pump just doesnt seem like the best idea... If you dont want/need manual steering specifically, just replace the pump. They are not that much money, and if you get one from Autozone or the like, it will have a lifetime warrenty most likely. So you wont have to pay for another one...

no its not just the pump, its only 45 dollars, its also the bracket kit that goes from 340 down to like 209, so thats brings it to like 175 and i still need lines, so figure 200, and if i went with the say s10 box, it would be about the same price, 200 right? plus save me bunches of weight and still clean up my appearance in my engine bay, but the only thing im wondering is if its worth it turning effort wise?

Soooo...you dont have power steering now? Or are you in the process of building the car. Im alittle confused now. I assumed you had a car, and the pump went out, and you were debating about whether you should replace the pump, or ditch the pump for a manual box.
If you are building the car, I still would kinda have to vote for power steering. You will tolerate the manual steering for a bit, but it might get old for ya. Ive never had to drive my 3rd gen without power steering, but I have had to drive my Jeep witout the pump, and it wasnt too fun parking or manuvering in tight, slow areas.

you dont want a manual box unless its weekend cruiser drag racer.
taking corners or oversteer/understeer with a manual box can be a handful.
its not all that bad to steer.
i couldnt tell a difference from my iroc wheels to skinnys, but now i really went lightweight with a set of magnum 2.0's and the steering FEELS like power steering. wheels tires weigh nothing....

I have a S10 box on my car, it is difficult at times. I could tell a diff between the 215's and the skinnies. Skinnies look better, so the car keeps them on at all times now.
Low speed its different, not the easiest with a big gulp in one hand and steering with the other, but mostly due to the increase in turns the wheel now does.
Correcting a little fish tail gets a little awkward, as your sawing on the wheel a ton more if the rear is way out, but controlable.
If its a DD with TONs of city driving/right turns, might want to think twice about it. Anything else, do it, cleans up the engine bay, loses weight, and simple to install.
