Has anyone done dual SFCs under their car?

I remember about a year and a half ago, when I was having my uncle's shop bolt Alstons onto my car (they're being welded on this spring) that there were people on here who did 2 sets of SFCs under their cars to tighten them even more.

What works with Alston/TDSs? Is there much benefit to running 2 sets? The reason I am considering this is because my car still seems to have a fair amount of squeaks and creaks from running the TDSs alone...I don't think simply welding them in versus having them bolted will make much difference.

Thanks to anyone who can help...hope this isn't a stupid question. I just remember someone mentioning because the Alston/TDSs are so far inboard that another set can be welded in further out. This will not be a track car...just looking to comfy up/quiet down my street cruiser.

The UMI's I have will work with alstons I am 99% sure. My UMI left me with more squeaks creaks and rattles than stock, but I think I didnt weld them in right. Oh well, you live and you learn - do it right the first time.

sounds like you need to do a bit more welding

as above, UMI will work, though they are rectangular. I was toying with this idea a while ago and i was planning to use spohns since they are round and would match the alstons better.

and having the alstons welded in CORRECTLY will make a big difference over just having them bolted in.

You'd get a lot more stiffness in the chassis by interconnecting both sets of SFC's, if you go that route.

Re: Has anyone done dual SFCs under their car?
Well, I'm having my body shop (I'm the GSM of a Chrysler dealer) weld the Alstons in a couple months...I assume if I order Spohns they will work in conjunction with the Alstons? I'm pulling and replacing the carpet anyway, so I figure why not weld away??

How could I interconnect them? What kind of tubing should I look for? Any recommendations are sincerely appreciated...I want this car as vault-like as possible...the extra weight isn't much of an issue for me.

Re: Has anyone done dual SFCs under their car?
I have the older Spohn box-type SFC's welded on. Once installation was done almost all squeaks and rattles stopped. Car rides like its on rails and going over bumps with one wheel affects the whole car.

If you are still having probs with welded SFC's then they may need to be welded better. Mine have welds every 4 - 6 inches.

I would think there could be clearance issues with double SFC's installed, especially near the Y-pipe

+1 SFC's should never be bolted in.

So I take it 2 sets is a bad idea then? I thought it was ok...no? Can I assume a significant improvement in the Alstons by just welding them in place? Maybe I don't need 2 sets after all...but I wanna know because I'm only taking the interior out and welding once. If I need to weld a 2nd set in because I'm not happy with just one set, I'll be ticked!

2 set is not a bad thing, it will not adversly affect anything, just add a little more wieght.

so long as your not welding on the floor, you dont need to raise the carpet. I welding in my alstons and only had to lift the carpet on the driverside under the seat a bit.

Well, you can try welding in the Alstons now and see how you like it. If you're still not satisfied, you can get a set like UMI's that can be welded in without removing the carpet, or anything for that matter.
