J&M Camber/Caster Plates
J&M Camber/Caster Plates
So, I tried installing my new camber/caster plates onto my 89 camaro.
a buddy and I took the plastic covers off, then took off the 3 smalls nuts holding the piece inside the wheel well
then, we couldnt get the large bolt off metal screw its on because it just spins.
we tried finding a wrench that fit and used a wrench for the bolt, didnt work
then we tried using vice grips on the metal piece and a wrench on the bolt, no luck and the metal screw is pretty much stripped
any suggestions?

Well, its a tricky bolt sometimes. Having an impact wrench helps but if you don't and you striped it, your in trouble. I have aftermarket struts on my car but i believe the factory struts had a smaller hex part that you fit a 10mm wrench on then just turned the big nut to loosen.
If all else failed, its new struts time. If it were me id be replacing the struts but thats not always an option for others.
Keep the old strut plates bolted down until you have successfully loosened the strut bolt.
If you still can, grip the stud the small hex, with a wrench and get a closed end wrench on the large bolt, i believe its 7/8" and try to loosen. May need a hammer. Also let it soak in penetrating oil over night before you attempt. Also make sure you are turning the bolt the correct way.

Re: J&M Camber/Caster Plates
well, i didnt completely strip the strut part, and the bolt is fine
i think the thing is caked on there
so, just put the impact on reverse and just have at it and it should come loose?
and i guess its a good thing i tried to install them(even though i wasnt able to) i found the inside of my tires had the threads showing because no company in my area know how to give my car a correct alignment
