I have the stock wheels for a 1991 firebird, I think they are 7" wide, I'm not sure though. Could you guys help me pick out a drag radial that would work in my application? I'm somewhat on a budget right now. Any help would be appreciated, I'm running the stock wheels for a stock sleeper look BTW.

I would go with a P255/60R15, its 27in tall and recommended for a 7-9in rim. That tire would be as big as you would want to go with a 7in wide rim.

 

Nitto 555R, Mickey Thompson or Hoosier all make a 245/50/16..........if 15" they have a even wider tire 275 is what Buick guys use

how much power?
the radials really arent the best at the track for a stick shift car, but they still give great performance on the street.
if they are track only tires, id look into a set of "stiff" wall slicks.

 

Mickey Thompson has a dealer locator, you just put in your zip code. Most chain stores like discount tire, Big O ect can get BFG, MT, you just will have to special order them. If there are any speed shops around your area they may even have some in stock.

Summitracing has a decent selection of all the brands just mentioned and more. Goodyear has DOT slicks as well. I myself and gonna give Hoosiers a shot once the weather warms up here and I need track tires. But I'm in the 17" wheel selection...not as many as you'll have to select from.

 

i agree with stage 20.. if you plan on tryin to get the fastest times at the strip with these tires, dont bother, at best you will hit a 1.6 60ft.. i've never heard of anyone going faster than that with a stick and small radials (>275)..

at the track, i could only muster a 1.810 best with 275/50-15 MT radials.. then i got a set of hoosier QTP's and i'm not looking back.. when i get the funds, i'll be running hoosier prostreet radials up front and my qtp's in the back for street tires.. no money for front rims and tires yet..

et streets or hoosier qtp's would be a better option for traction.. but i have heard that the hoosier radials are supposed to be better than the MT's.. alot of mixed testimonials..

 

on a stick car the hoosiers will work better than the mt. the sidewall is much softer and there isnt as much radial construction in the tire(hence they are lighter)
i would choose a qtp over a MT et street anyday.
if you had an automatic, the MT radial is a bad bad boy.
