torque arm question

has anyone ever install an aftermarket torque arm in an F body and REALLY seen a difference in there 60ft time at the track? I have a factory Torque arm in my formula, and it pulls 1.55 60fts at the track. It bolts to the trans housing. I was thinking of going with a spohn arm, but if the Factory is holding up, then whats the use? I cant run a bolt to the crossmember unit because of the 3" flowmaster Y pipe will interfear. So it would have to be a stock adj arm. I have HEARD of horror stories about these Factory arms snapping during a hard lauch and all hell comming loose. Then my buddy who has a Turbo T/A runs just a bit faster ten me has the same factory arm with no problems. Do they sell a peice of steel that you can weld onto it to kinda make it somewhat boxed for better strength? Let me hear fron the experinced racers who have seen it and tested with it

Re: torque arm question

the stock arm usually doesnt fail.. the arm is just stamped steel, and it flexs under hard corners/hard launches... wat fails is where it mounts to the rear of the trans... and that is a horror story when that goes... it tears the rear end housing off the trans unless ur get lucky and the bushing or the steel mount goes. the whole point and most important thing to do is get the mount off the rear of the trans.

spohn sells one, UMI sells one, i think BMR does as well. and jegster sells one... thats the one i have it bolts to the tranny tunnel so theres no bars running across and its 2/3's shorter than stock so it plants the tires harder!

i'll let u kno when i install mine when i do the motor swap

u can weld steel to the stocker to make it flex less. ppl usually weld steel bar the length of it and connect them with bar to strengthen it. but still doesnt solve the problem of that its mounted at the rear of the trans.
