Need help tourqe arm broke

I went to the dragstrip last night, and on my second pass I heard something snap and slap my floor board.

I crawled under the car today. To my understanding the torque arm was not originally mounted to the crossmember. The previous owner tried to do so, and the bolts sheered right off. There are no bolts holding the bracket to the crossmember, and there is one bolt holding the torque arm to the bracket.

Would using higher strength bolts fix this issue?
Is there a cheap way to fix this and get better performance?

yea throw that cr@p in the garbage and buy a good one. i went with jegster its 2/3 shorter than stock, tubular, really light and bolts to the tranny tunnel to take the stress off the rear of the trans. BMR, UMI etc make them also but the jegster is the shortest and lightest, a shorter arm increases tire bite

Thanks for the post, but I am kind of on a budget so I need a temporary fix. I am going off to college so I am now unemployed.

Will I need a new cross member with an aftermarket tourque arm?

My car currently has a short tail th350 so I don't think I could use a tourque arm that didn't bolt to the crossmember.

looking at about 400 bux from UMI or Spohn for a crossmember mount arm

http://www.jegs.com/i/Jegster/550/40097/10002/-1

this is another option, a little cheaper, and a shorter arm which can help increase wheel bite.

Yeah, unfortunately what you have on your car now will never hold up on the dragstrip. It doesn't matter if you put stronger bolts in it or not, the geometry in the rear suspension needs to be right or nothing is going to work. I went with the jegster arm too, its on the cheaper side compared to spohn or other torque arms. Here's a pic of mine.

Re: Need help tourqe arm broke

Thanks for all the help. All the products listed and advice was great. I won some sphon lca's and poly bushings on ebay a week ago. So I will keep my eye peeled for a deal on one of those peices.

I looked at the bracket that was used and my stock crossmember both are bending a little bit. This explains my 1.9 second 60 foots. I am going to bolt it back together till I get the money for the ourqe arm.

Re: Need help tourqe arm broke

It looks like its solidly mounted, which will eventually bend and break everything in sight.
