Strut/Shock combo with Sportline Springs

Anyone have a recomendation on what struts/shocks to go with? I have the Eibach sportline springs. Right now I have the KYB GR2's on there because they came with the springs when I bought them. I am looking to upgrade now.

i have the same as u, gr2 upfront and gas-a-just in the rears. everyone gona tell u koni yellows... which are great shocks but are mucho $$

any shock/strut that is design for lowered cars will be good and u just have to match the firmness to your driving style. tokio makes sum nice ones. so does blisten etc

Indeed yellows are the benchmark to beat, but any adjustable shock would be fine. You could get away with the gr2's, but judging by the fact you bought the more aggressive sportline springs, you would like some performance. Tokico sells their illumina shocks on ebay for a fair price.

The sportlines are not more agressive. They're softer. I remember seeing a dyno graph of some of the adjustable shocks out there not being able to keep up with a properly valved non-adjustable.

Personally, I'd just try any decent named brand (I'm running sportlines and bilsteins right now) and see what that does for how you think it handles. That'll give you an idea of where you should go from there next time (harder, softer, etc).

I just put in a set of Tokico blue to go with the sportlines, to be honest its a nice ride for a daily driver its firm yet comfortable. Defiantly not for auto-X or racing.

Re: Strut/Shock combo with Sportline Springs

I don't drive my car much and when I do I push it hard (over the last year I put 1,7xx miles on the car). That's why I'm going with Koni Yellows. Yeah you need a deep pocket to get those but since I am always autocrossing or simply pushing the car hard on the street I need the stiffness these shock/struts offer.

Like everyone else says, "What will you be using the car for?"

Re: Strut/Shock combo with Sportline Springs

i keep getting different numbers with the stock spring rates... no one can get a definiative answer... i read that they were 600lbs/in... the sportlines are 695lb/in front and 103-120 rear it think... prokits are 700 front and 160 rear.... the only real diff between the 2 is the rear spring rates... and at the cost of how much more of a drop.... .5" up front?!?... maybe....

http://tech.firebirdv6.com/suspension.html

did the 4th gens have lower spring rates??? i kno this link is for the 4th gen but it should give us an idea.

Re: Strut/Shock combo with Sportline Springs

ive been told the stock iroc springs were 550lb up front. that was the stiffest offered i think. the sportlines are 700 front and pro kits are 714 front. not to much differance but the fronts on the sports are well known for sagging. the rears are very soft though. like stock rear rates i think. rear sportlines are 80lb/137lb and pro kits are 109lb/177lb. trust me ive had both and its a very noticable differance between the two. ...lol i like the stance of the sportlines better but the pro kit handles better.

Re: Strut/Shock combo with Sportline Springs

save up get the koni yellows don,t waste your money. I would say that a thirdgen with a stock suspension with konis would out handle a thirdgen with a tuned suspension with cheaper struts and shocks.

Re: Strut/Shock combo with Sportline Springs

yea okkk! a stock suspension... as in brand new bushings, new stock springs etc and koni yellows vs a lowered higher spring rates, poly bushings, wonderbar, STB, LCA, panhard rod, torque arm.... etc... ur nuts.

struts/shocks mean nothing when the rest of the car isnt up to the struts/shocks capabilities. no way would shocks/struts make that much of a difference on a car that u can twist the suspension parts in your hands.

Hotpart.com has free ground shipping. I'm not sure if it is free for going to Canada but even so, they have one of the cheapest prices for the full set of Koni Yellows.

This is going back a few years but rather than deal with the losers around here I just shipped them in from shocks.com

The dollar was no where near on par back then but the price was about the same as the local assclowns were asking even though they didn't have anything in stock, wanted full payment up front and could not gurantee delivery anytime soon ever.
