so i just purchased a NOS s10 manual box for my 84 t/a. and i was told the pitman arm would work, well it doesnt. its too big, is there a different 3rd gen pitman arm i could use? or another type of car? im having trouble locating a pitman arm because it is a non wear item. thanks

Does the steering box have 4 bolts or 3 bolts on the top cover? It sounds like you have the older, smaller, 3 bolt top cover steering box. It can be modified to work however the 4 bolt top cover version is a direct swap.
You won't find a smaller sized pitman arm for that box that's the same as a third gen's pitman arm.

i purchased my box for an 1987 (IIRC) S10 and retained the factory pitman arm with no issues.

Re: s10 box pitman arm?
The 84+ S10 boxes have a 4 bolt top cover. The pitman arms have the same diameter hole so they'll easily swap. The older boxes (3 bolt top cover) have a smaller shaft so the newer pitman arms won't fit.
