replacing strut bolts which bolts to use
i recently replaced my struts and a few suspension bushings/bolts. the stut bolts that bolt on to the spindle were trash, tried napa for replacement bolts but could not find the proper thread. anyways i used 5/8's zinc plated bolts from home depot, just wondering if there durable enough, considering this holds the spindle and strut im a bit worried if they dont hold up or break any input is apreciated thanks

Spohn sells the bolts and nuts you need. It's a little pricey, but at least you know it will work.

you need high grade/strengh bolt . home depot stuff is like grade 1-3 , you should have grade 8-10+ . think about front end falling apart at interstate speeds . put the right stuff back in . good luck . Joined: Nov 2005

Re: replacing strut bolts which bolts to use
The OEM bolts are torque-to-yield. Which would be the best for replacement. Service manual states to replace the bolts, washers, and nuts at each removal.
However, it has been known to use 5/8-11 x 3" bolts, nuts and washers in grade 8 (Lowes has them). Use red locktite and torque to 200 ft/lb.

I wouldn't use anything less than a grade 8. Preferrably a grade 8.8 or 10.9.

Re: replacing strut bolts which bolts to use
Thanks for all the replies, bolts are 8.8 grade i just reaplced them with home depot ones because i had a hard term finding them at local auto parts and was tired of spending more time shopping for bolts then actually fixing the car, i did use locktite on the bolts, but now i can rest easy and know the bolts will hold up. i will replace them next time around, when i go and disasemble suspension parts once again and give them a scrub and paint, this will take a few weeks @ least i know i can drive the car as is thanks
