Ok guys heres my question. Im getting new wheels and tires pretty quick here. 15x8 out back and 15x7 up front. I need to know a tire size thats wide in the rear with out rubbing and that fills out the wheel wells. It's a street car so its not tubbed or anything. Whats your suggestions?

 

I'd suggest 16" wheels/tires.

But if your hell bent on 15" 235/60/15 front and rear.

Anything wider and taller will look like your have off road truck tires---awful look on a sports car.

 

im running 245 60 15s no problem the widest you can go is a 275, but i wouldnt do that unless you actually need the grip.

 

what size for 16"

 

For 16"....Stock is 245...255 is the widest you can get, other than Rae Compound tires or the BFG 295/50R16s.

The BFGs will fit the rears, but won't fit (clear) the front turning needs.

 

The question is what's the widest tyres you can fit on those rims you got. Not what is the widest tyres you can fit on the car.

9.5 rim will handle 275 on all fours but you can go a bit wider on the rear like 285 or 295 - only problem there is that you can't swap the 285 or 295 onto the front to spread the wear around a bit so 275 is probably optimal and more than enough for street use anyway.

 

You have to consider the availability of tires for what size wheel you buy. As time goes on, the options for smaller wheels will continue diminish. If you are buying new wheels, I would get at least 16s. 17s will probably have more options longer into the future. Just something to consider.

With a x7 wheel, I wouldn't go wider than a 225 or 235.
With a x8, 245 or 255 (hard to find 255s)
With a x9 or x9.5, 275-295.

 

I've been looking into this also. For the 7" rim you should be able to go with 255 but a lot of people say to go with 235s. I would also like suggestions for the stock 91 camaro 7" rims. Would it be worth putting 255's on them and would that make the car handle better?

 

okay i have the stock 16 inch rims and im running 255/50/16's in the rear and 245/50/16's in the front... Came with the car. when i get new rear tires in the next few weeks I will be trying to get the 255's again....

How wide are the stock 16 inch iroc rims? I'm thinking 8.5..
ohh and what tires (has to be all season) do you recommend for my rear? Don't take over the thread with this question though. I think im going with some hankook ventus (can't remember if its gs or something else). They are 245s though....
Also does anyone know why the rims are stamped front and rear?

 

The front and rears have different backspacing. The fronts are 4 1/2" backspacing and the rears are 5 1/8." This was necessary to move the rear tires inboard approximately 16mm so the 245/50/16's would clear the fender lip.
