Spring Rate?

Does anybody know the stock spring rate for a '88 IROC-Z Camaro? I'm wanting to do a coil-over kit and their asking me what spring rate i want. I like the ride, but i'd like to get just a lil stiffer. Any information or links will freatly be appreciated.

Re: Spring Rate?

There are a few different ones for the front, depending on the options package. But, the design in the stock suspension requires a stiffer spring than a coil-over will (the control arm acts as a lever and magnifies the force applied to the spring). This link from Spohn describes what different rates they offer and what they are for. Where are you getting the kit from?

Re: Spring Rate?

moog 5662 springs are stock on the front end i believe, and have a rate of 700 lb/in

you would be best to call whomever you are buying your coilovers from and giving them your current spring rate and ask them for directions on what to get.

Re: Spring Rate?

Well actually i'm thinking of getting the BMR tubular K-member with spohn's front and rear coilover kit. I didn't know that about the factory setup requiring a higher spring rate. I looked on spohn's and read their info. Thanks guys for the help! Love the forum.

Re: Spring Rate?

why are you going with the coil over instead of the stock style with new springs and new shocks?
