bushing replacement or full front end?

My 1988 Camaro has rather loose steering. The slightest ruts in the road cause it to pull in either direction. I am wondering if replacing the bushings would be enough to stiffen it up again or should I invest in a new front suspension all together?

first of all inspect steering linkage & ball joints . fix what is bad , a full rebuild is not that big a thing . it is a BIG safety factor . if you drive with a loose/sloppy front end you are just asking for trouble . if you are not sure , take it to a local alignment shop . most will point out what is bad and show you . don't be afraid to ask , all they can say is no . if you do the work yourself you will need an alignment . just try to keep dimensions on linkage the same . then get an alignment . do not drive it alot , just to alignment shop . good luck .

yeah, i'm not driving it right now for the safety aspect. I'm probably gonna have a friend of my in-laws look at it and let me know what needs to be done, he's a certified mechanic so i'm sure he'll know. Thanks, I am on a really tight budget (just what little cash I have left after bills and family) so i'm trying to reuse what I can.

Re: bushing replacement or full front end?

Hey im having the same problem with my 84 camaro (exactly) like you described. I just purchased a full energy suspension kit for rear and front but i have not put in on yet hopefully this will be the problem..

I also have a pop (clunk) on both left and front (lower) end suspension when i am braking, just about when im gonna come to a complete stop. does anybody know what this can be???
