crossfire tower brace

I have the crossfire composite hood and a 14" air cleaner assembly, I have ZERO room between the two for a standard Strut tower brace. does someone make one for the crossfire cars? or do I have to get one custom made? Id like to have one that ties into the firewall but I'll take what I can get.

thanx

Re: crossfire tower brace

dude that's awesome but it says 87-92. Mines an 84, now I know there's no obvious difference in the towers but is there a not so obvious one, maybe with the firewall? why does it say 87-92

I think the difference is in the hoods inner structures

Re: crossfire tower brace

how sure are you there? because the hood kris and I are running are from an 82-82 camaro so would summit say that? or are they just being safe?

grr summit bothers me sometimes, in the instructions it says,"Designed for 1982-92 Camaros and Firebirds with Throttle Body Injected V8s" now Im sure that means no TPIs but i'm sure carbs are fine

who do I listen to summit or the instructions? on 136+tax, I don't like hunches

Re: crossfire tower brace

Well....In Kris's pic above, the underside it totally different from other Camaro hoods I've seen.

I think those early hoods have a different inner structure, that "conformed" to the shape of those 3 "IROC-style" indentions

The Edelbrock won't fit the earlier cars with the AC compressor on the driver's side, which your 84 would have. You'll note that Kris's car, a 91, is equipped with the serpentine set-up which places the compressor on the pass side. More pics in my Car Details below if you wish to investigate (I swapped to serp for a couple of reasons, to include the ability to install the Edelbrock).

WRONG!

I just took my Edelbrock of my 87 GTA (v-belt, driver's side compressor)...It fit just fine, in regards to the compressor.

Actually, IIRC, it's not the compressor so much as the compressor brace. The Edelbrock wouldn't fit my v-belt set-up.

Re: crossfire tower brace

Everybody said it wouldn't fit a Pontiac, much less the passenger side compressor. I did both.....The red marks were just dabs of paint, to see if & where it hit the hood.

They just didn't clearance the underhood bracing. Our cars are for MODDING. Those who want "mods" but expect things to simply "drop on" should be driving Hyundai's!

Re: crossfire tower brace

This from Summit (and this seems to be the general consensus on TGO): Edelbrock # 5227 V8 with TBI (throttle body injection) [or carb]. With A/C compressor on passenger side.

Re: crossfire tower brace

well if thats the case then I should have no problem considering I have a non AC car right?

PS. Stephen, that's not the same brace that I'm talking about

Re: crossfire tower brace

TBI vs TPI could be the difference....But I don't see either working with the crossfire.

Could just make your own? For like $25 (for a 2-point), it isn't a bad idea either

Exactly why you will be fine with this STB. Some people are just getting into this thread because they like to be in every thread.

Re: crossfire tower brace

Re: crossfire tower brace

I got that hood at a junk yard for $40 off a 82 Z28, but it did not have the crossfire engine, so it is a nonfunctional SMC hood.

I dunno if the funtional parts will pose any problems, because I don't have the functional parts. Post up some pics of what you have.

Are you running a 14" open air element with a functional crossfire SMC hood?
