Re: Better Choice

What parts are you wanting to replace? And are you going for cheap as in cheap replacement or cheap performance?

Re: Better Choice

What are you looking to do? cheap upgrades? stock? etc

IMO there is no cheap upgrades but heres what i did.

I saved a bit by getting tokico shocks/struts instead of Koni's/billsteins.
If you want to lower your car i recommend one of the above shock/strut choices because they are designed to work with lowered cars, most other shocks and struts will wear quickly.

Tokicos cost me about 500 off ebay for the set.

If you want to lower your car im going to say go with the pro kit from eibach. Lowers it real nice and has good spring rates. That costs 200 from summitt. If your looking to stay stock then MOOG sells stock springs at all NAPA auto stores.

Poly bushings all around are a must on your swaybars etc. You might wanna look at upgrading swaybars. Cost me about 60$ to get all poly bushings for my front and rear sway bars.

Then there is the Panhard rod, Lower Control arms and relocation brackets, which i upgraded seperatly. That costs about 300$ for all that stuff aftermarket. Im ordering them shortly due to money being a limiting factor but if your staying stock ride height then the stock parts you have will be fine, just replace your old cracked worn rubber busings.

And then is your front end shot? I believe spohn offers a total front end rebuild of all moving parts, tie rods etc for about 400$. Its all MOOG stuff and ill be going for that pretty soon.

It really all depends on what you want, stock ride height, lowered, do you auto-x? do you like your car to perform? of do you only care about the 1/4 mile? Each setup is different. 91_5.7_TPI is really good with everything suspension and he helped me out with my build numerous times. A search into things will find a ton of info and all of it is different.

Re: Better Choice

later down the road i'm looking to track race/ street, but honestly right now i'm just looking to get it done with my suspension, lets say my whole suspension is shot and i just want regular height really but i'm looking into track/street if that helps. Well i know cheap is cheap but i mean like something i could payless as possible but still get its quality to be good, like say pay 1000$ for the same material as for another brand that charges 300$, but still offers the same exact quality, thats what i mean really... just a better price. Im on short terms for cash as well also :\

Here is what i think. You seem to have the same needs as mine so ill try and break down my build for you. I would highly recommend something like these as if your serious about road racing down the line you will just end up shelling out the money for this in a few years.

Even thought i dont have them Koni Yellows are the best if you can afford em, then get them. Good shocks/springs are the basis after tires for good handling. You can substitute a set of Eibachs for some MOOG stock ride height springs if you want but youll have to look into that one yourself.

Id say go with the Tokico Illumina 5 way adjustable shocks/struts. they are a great choice, while not as good as the konis think of them as more like a shock/strut for someone who isnt going to go all out in their car all the time, but you still get a similar performance. If your not lowering your car then i have heard good things about the KYB AGX's but they will not work on a lowered car.

As for springs ill stand by my pro kit. I think the sportlines are too much of a drop. The prokit gives you 1 inch in the rear and i believe 1.4 in the front as opposed to the sportlines which is a 1.6 inch front drop and a 1.4 inch rear drop. Both springs are made by Eibach. THe pro kit is 209.00 from summitt while the sportline is 239.00.

Poly bushings are a must for your swaybars. Its about 60$ to get them all just for your swaybars. Id say keep your stock ones for now, and to not worry about upgrading yours untill you really get into racing.

But for now id really say focus on those three things, It made a world of difference when i put them in, im still waiting on the money to finance my LCA's, panhard, etc... But you wont be sorry.

If your really not serious about racing ever and your on a budget than id say just go grab some KYB Gr-2's and Gas-a-justs and some moog springs and replace all your worn bushings and you will be set.

Ebay is where i got my shocks/struts
Summitt is where i got my Springs
And I got my bushings from my local auto parts store. Mine were moog poly bushings but summit sells the correct bushings also i believe they carry energy suspension
As for the LCA's Lcarb"s and panhard, its up to personal preference, its a good idea to get an adjustable panhard and to not get Poly/poly bushings in LCA's im going to pressure you to search on issues like that. take time and do some searches, what i did for myself might not be best for you there are TONS of options to look into. As for where to purchase the latter suspension parts, all the sponsors carry them, as well as summitt. I prefer UMI, but there is also Spohn, BMR, Hotchkis, and many others, they are all basically the same and in the end it comes down to personal preference.

Re: Better Choice

if you wanna go cheap, get gabriel brand. they stock them at o'reilly's and auto zone. rears are like $20, fronts are pretty cheap too. I'm sure they'll work fine.
