Competition Engineering SFC'S

Ok, so the BMR's were back ordered until next month and I cant wait that long (Car is going through a transformation and there is allot of work to do and it must be completed within a year) I ordered a Competition Engineering 10 point cage and since these were just about the only ones that werent back ordered I went ahead and purchaed a set (Should be here this week)
Anyone using these? How well do they work?
And no, I am not shy about cutting into the floor to get them in the car.

Well, Since no one wants to comment I guess I will be the guinea pig... Just got mine in, they don't have all the fancy stuff, just two straight bars with some brackets welded on... I would recomend just buying some square stock, its cheaper. (I am going to buy some to reinforce these)

Re: Competition Engineering SFC'S

OK, After some review of this product and after playing under my car and scratching my head for a few moments this is what I have to say for these.

Cons:
1. There are no provisions for connecting the front sub frame to the rear sub frame, you have to make your own connector to connect the scf to the rear frame sections.
2. You have to cut a LONG hole through the floor of the car into the cabin (I am dead serious)
3. The connectors will protrude into the cabin through the floor.
4. The square stock is not capped off (The ends are open)
5. They appear to go THROUGH the seat rails (You will have to notch all the way up to into the seat area to install.
6. Setup is going to be a nightmare to make sure the chassis is straight while I cut two giant holes in the floor.
7. If you were running rear seats which I personally will not, your rear passengers would end up with a bar between their cheeks.
8. The fuel filter and lines will need to be relocated.

Pros:
1. They will be really strong in this configuration, welded on both sides.
2. Not going to have any clearance issues, either in ride height or with the exhaust (They end up really tucked in, some places more than half the bar will be through the floor)
3. They are inexpensive...

As you can see, I would NOT recommend these to anyone unless they are pushing some major power... These are going to be a severe pita to install and are not what I would consider a "Kit" by any stretch of the imagination, they are more of a pair of conveniently sized materials used for a SFC that's going to be a bear to install, but worth it in the end.

Re: Competition Engineering SFC'S

I have the old style bolt on Competition Engineering sfcs. I did however change the approx 2 inch metal bars going from the sills to the center member to 3/8 inch flat steel to eliminate the ground clearance problem. Mine worked great until the car was wrecked a couple of years ago. I would highly recommend the bolt in type C.Eng. connectors and then weld them in. There is nothing on the market now as good as the ones that I had and converted them. Good luck. I wish I had seen your original post to help you along.

Re: Competition Engineering SFC'S

i just orderd a set last night and should be here tomorrow. a little extra cutting is not going to bother me much though since the whole rear of the car is gone because im backhalving it. thats actually the reason why i bought these specific ones.

Re: Competition Engineering SFC'S

Should work well with a half backed car.

By the way, i think you have some rice stuck in your teeth... Might want to get that out of there before it festers.
