i know that poly bushings are louder than rubber, but my car is soooo squeeky that its annoying to drive. its obnoxious on the inside, and when i drive by in a parking lot everyone must be thinking wow what a junker it squeeking like so other. i've heard about poly squeeking before, but never this bad. i greezed all of the bushings (spoon tubular stuff) and its still doing it, i have double poly lca's, panhard, tq-arm bushings, trans mount, and sway bar ends. any ideas?

 

i have the same problem on my left rear shock. cant fugure it out either. someone said that they need to seat in, but im not real sure about that. hate the noise makes me feel like i drive a junker too.
when you find an answer please post it for the reat of us.

 

Use oil on them, such as a 20W50. Use a small oil squirt can to apply it. Note that it will drip from the bushings for a short while. So put a piece of newspaper or cardboard on the floor under each area first.

Then just apply oil onto the bushings at the pivot area openings. The oil will weep in from capillary action and the squeaks will be gone.

Before anyone jumps up & down about the poly being ruined by the oil, the manufactures of poly bushings claim that they are impervious to oil, grease and a bunch of other stuff.

Well im not jumping up and down lol, but i thought petroleum made the poly soft and mushy, thats why i paid $15 for poly grease? Just like how WD40 will expand anything rubber to the point of being junk. On my 41 chevy i used WD40 to get the new grommets in, and a couple weeks later they were swelled up so much and i pulled them apart very easily.

 

Can both of you that have problems with poly bushings squeaking tell us what brand of bushings you have?

 

Try tightening them up.

 

ok i figured it out!i took RBob's advice and used oil on them(lca's. panhard, TQ arm) form a spray can, and waited an hour, it was better, but not very much at ll, i called my uncle (8.5 sec corvette etc he knows his stuff) he was like "yeah, its gonna be where your sway bar attached to the body, just WD-40 the bushings and it'll stop squeeking" well i grabbed thw wd40, sprayed the sway bar bushings and 15 min later SILENCE! they aren't completely squeek free, but DANG close. mke sure to lube the upper and lower bushings where the sway bar attaches to the body, i missed the top ones the first time

 

my problem is that its the top of the shock that is in the back seat area, and the oil works for a while and then the squeek comes back.
let us know if your fix is permanent.

 

I use the greased bushings and they are really quiet but the swaybar bushings were noisy so I put a little grease on them and put it all back together and its just as quiet as rubber.

 

you probably arent getting the oil all the way into the joints...
i tend to use either lithium grease or axle grease on everything...
not because i should, but because thats what is commonly laying around.
what i did was mix up about a spoonful of axle grease (the stuff that looks like vaseline) with a few squirts of wd-40 to get the consistency right so that it could be squirted easy.
put some of that all around the poly bushing and in a while, the wd40 will evaporate and the axle grease will stick just like it should.
thats what i do and it works fine for me...
