Do These Cars Have Alignment Problems????

I have an 89 Iroc and I just had it aligned last summer after I put new tie rod ends in and already the inside of my front tires are bald. I also have an 87 sport coupe that I drove for maybe 4,000 miles without any issues. Is there something up front I should be looking for? Thanks.

balljoints could be bad, strut mounts could be shot too. It is also possible you got a bad alignment. Where did you go? You should not be eating tires that fast.

Original owner and only two frontend alignments in 22yrs. One after 15yrs to check if everything was correct and the other this year when I replaced all the steering parts. So I would say they hold there wheel alignment.

My balljoints are good and so are my strut mounts. I went to VIP. I got new tires and I'm going to have it aligned again and see what happens, its deffinatly possible I got a bad alignment.

Re: Do These Cars Have Alignment Problems????

I've done alignments for over 5 years and driven my camaro for 10 and i'd say these cars have no alignment problems. It's got to be a bad part or bad alignment.

Re: Do These Cars Have Alignment Problems????

Replaced all 4 of my tie rod ends at home & eyeballed them, back to where the old ones came off, never got it professionally aligned. That was 2 years ago & the tires are still plenty happy.

So whatever your problem, it is just "normal" for 3rd gens. Either they did a bad job, or something else wore out, causing your tire problems.

Re: Do These Cars Have Alignment Problems????

yeah these cars are sweet. im going to rebuild my front end in the next month when i cools down. try jacking up the front under the kmember and clock the wheels in the rear. with the front in the air, try the wiggle test to see if maybe your bearings are out or you have excessive endplay. sure your strut mounts are ok, but that guy was asking about the strut mount alignment. what kind of a rebuild did you do. center link, idle arm, pitman arm, tie rod ends, inner tie rods, springs, struts, steering box, balljoints, bearings, tie rod ties, front control arm bushings, sway bar bushings, upper strut mount bearings. it is over 20 years old..
