Re: Torque arm needed ?

Let me think about that a bit...

YES

The torque arm prevents the rear axle from rotating under conditions
of acceleration & braking. Possible side effects are:
-- pinion yoke chewing a hole in the floor
-- twisting the shock mounts off at the axle
-- possibly extracting the drive shaft from the transmission

Go ahead, ask me how I know this.

Re: Torque arm needed ?

The car was designed for a torque arm, so, as mentioned above, yes! The arm keeps the rear end from rolling upward. Every thirdgen trans will have provision for the torque arm. Advertise in the classifieds for one.

No after market pieces that I'm aware of. As I mention above, all thirdgen trans will have a mount of the arm.

what? is that a brain fart james or are we on different pages?

there are tons of options for torque arms and mounts, all depending on what trans you have. Check out UMI performance, Spohn Performance, BMR fabrication, jegster, global west, ect.

You will most likely be looking for a tunnel or crossmember mounted torque arm, since you apparently dont have a mount on your trans.

Semi brain fart--I was thinking of the OE mount.

Re: Torque arm needed ?

He could use the Hurt or B&M crossmember mounts instead of a whole new TA/X member package

Re: Torque arm needed ?

I am using a 700r4 out of my pickup truck, took the tail back housing off both trannys and they seemed to fit so will put the camaro tail housing on it, camaro one had a speedometer port and my truck one instead of the speedometer has a magnet ? I just put the magnet back in the camaro housing because my tail shaft didnt seem to line up with the gears on the spedometers teeth.

you'll need to pull the tailshaft cover off again and tap the truck metal gear off (magnetic speedo reading gear) in place of the third gen plastic speedo drive gear, you can then use your original speedo driven gear assembly,

they tap right off the output shaft.
