has anyone ever thought of producing a widened spindle or widened a arm with offset strut mount/tie rod mount. would be nice to run 4th gen offset wheels without spacers...

 

No, because its far too technical for you to probably understabd why. And even if you did understand, you would then probably still just ignore the problems in favor of the looks of simply using a wheel that was not engineered to be used on a 3rd gen.

It would never happen. My best suggestion is to use a wheel with or witout a spacer that will give the same factory tread centerline as stock-yeilding a factory scrub radius.

 

I think it has to do with the wheel bearings center line matched to the strut setup. The spacers pretty much make the different offset wheels copy the original wheels.

I heard about that in alignment training. It changes whenever you change offset or tire size.

changing offset will effect scrub radius. tire size, no. because you are working with the center line of the tire.

blah blah centrline of tire in comparison to the steering axis inclination. Yeah but would the wheel spacers be bad for it as well? Tire diameter is said to affect factors of alignment but I would have to agree not bloody likely.

basically, it could be done, but you would have to completely re-engineer the front suspension.
say you got a-arms that were 2.5" longer, yeilding a greater strut angle and pushing the wheel out 56mm... now the camber is way off... how do you correct the camber? move the strut out, but moving the strut out will push the wheel out even more... 2.5 inches to be exact!
what you would need to do is create a package with longer a-arms and COMPLETELY redesigned spindles so that the wheel will still sit in the same place. now you have a problem with the strut being at a greater angle than it was designed for which throws off the camber curve (possibly favorably but i cannot tell without thinking it out more)
the next issue is that the caster will also be affected. with the strut at a greater angle, the caster will go through the roof, and instead of the wheel turning about its centerline, the scrub radius will also be so huge that the car will literally want to lift up at the front end when you turn the wheel... parallel parking would be a HUGE problem as you can see.

ive thought about the idea, but it ends up causing a lot more problems than meet the eye initially.
another solution would be to simply use spacers so that the centerline of the wheel is back where it should be.
